The months of July and August 2007 marked a major milestone for the OBS. The company until now known as a specialty pharmaceutical, operating in limited specialized segments has expanded its scope to other major therapeutic areas like the Anti-infectives, Anti-Ulcerants and Haematinics under the flagship of its newly formed sister concern – the OBS Pharma.

Today OBS Healthcare (Representing Organon part of Schering Plough Portfolio) is playing an instrumental role in population planning by being a major partner with MOPW and NGOs like Greenstar, offering the latest innovative techniques right from the oral pill to the high-tech implants. The foundation of a new hormonal manufacturing plant worth US$ 7-8 million was laid down recently at port Qasim Karachi.

Recently, the ground breaking ceremony for the new state of the art manufacturing plant for the company took place. This new premises located in the heart of newly developed north western industrial zone of port Qasim is an investment of approximately US$ 7-8 million. The Ministry of Health [MoH] has especially been supportive in materialization of this expansion plan clearly reflecting the broad vision of the MoH’s concerned officials’ for supporting an investment conducive environment for the pharma industry. At the new manufacturing site, there will be 3 major production areas; A non-hormonal production facility, a production unit for injectables and a dedicated area for hormonal drugs.

OBS is also collaborating with international companies to bring in new innovative drugs into the local market.

In continuation to OBS’s expansion plans, a new separate and dedicated business development department was setup recently. This new division is a key component in supporting the company’s expansion needs. The efforts of this unit are focused towards bringing in additional business by launching new products and initiating new ventures for the company. The objective is to further strengthen the company’s existing portfolio of Gynae, fertility, anesthesia and neuroscience products by bringing in complimentary products of the same therapeutic categories as well as enter into new product markets by collaborating with international companies to bring in new innovative drugs and also focus on introducing local generic products. The product pipeline of the company at this point in time is well stocked with product candidates in various stages of development.

Implanon; another innovative introduction by OBS Healthcare (Representing Organon part of Schering Plough Portfolio) - the world’s first single rod contraceptive implant has been inducted by the Ministry of Population welfare and will be introduced in the National Family program by the end of 2007.

The Gynae expert launches Ovafin - its own quality brand of Clomiphene Citrate.

With an already existing sophisticated range of reproductive medicine, the Gynae experts - as the company is known as is launching Ovafin; its own quality brand of Clomiphene Citrate. The introduction of Ovafin makes OBS Healthcare (Representing Organon part of Schering Plough Portfolio), the provider of a whole spectrum of infertility treatment from first line drugs like Pregnyl (hCG) to top of the line biotech Puregon (recombinant FSH) & Orgalutran (Ganrelix) and now Ovafin (Clomiphene Citrate).

A separate dedicated team has been inducted to focus in these new business segments. Realizing the importance of quality human resource; detailed training sessions and interactive workshops were carried out to enhance the communication skills and professional capabilities of the field force.
